6.Repeat the procedure for each statement used.

The Statements

Activity 2A - 'If you choose to take drugs you can only hurt yourself'

Discuss:
the consequences to the family and friends as seen in the video, the consequences to society eg Dangers of drug related driving, working etc and drug related crime, which may be either acquisitive or reactive.
"I spend £60 to £100 a day on my habit.  I earn the money working on the street or my lad steals."

Activity 2 B - "If you choose to experiment with drugs it's no worse than smoking or drinking alcohol"

Every year for each person who dies of Aids, five die from illegal drug use, 100 from alcohol abuse and 300 from smoking, but consider their respective lifespans. Tobacco smoking has long term health drawbacks, from health hazards such as passive smoking, consequences like limb amputation and various kinds of cancer and heart disease.
Alcohol misuse is a major factor in violent crime.  It is also linked to accidental death both to the user and to victims of the user.  Main personal health risk is liver failure. Drugs misuse has both long and short term effects.  Some short term ones are pleasant, some unpleasant and some fatal.  Longer term the pleasure is ever more difficult to attain and more and more of the drug must be taken to achieve tHe buZZ.

"I ken that drugs will kill me, they already have."
Activity 2 C - "If you choose to take drugs it won't affect your lifestyle - apart from maybe your health"

Employment prospects are lessened e.g. no employment with Armed Forces or oil company.
Drug testing in the workplace may mean that employment is suddenly terminated.
Travel prospects - effect on passport e.g. no entry to the USA.

"If it wasn't for Heroin I'd have a job, my own house, a family that's the way I was brought up."

"I shoplift and I work as a prostitute to get the money for drugs."

"I had a child, I tried to keep off drugs to keep my girl but it wasn't good enough she's been adopted and it hurts."
